Aberdeen have secured a new contract for Sam Cosgrove after a blistering end to 2018 – and the striker could help fire the Dons into a race for the Scottish Premiership title.
The former Carlisle United striker scored seven goals in the final six games of 2018 to earn himself an extension until 2022.

With the Dons sitting fourth in the table – three points behind the Old Firm – Cosgrove’s rich vein of form can make the Dons a real threat after the winter break.
Cosgrove is the Dons’ top scorer so far this season with nine goals to his name.
Keeping hold of Cosgrove will be massive for Derek McInnes’ side as they look to maintain place as the second team in the league.

With the title race the closest it has been in years, Aberdeen and Kilmarnock both have hopes of usurping the Old Firm and ending Celtic’s recent dominance.
After four consecutive second-place finishes, the Dons are now at risk of missing out on European football altogether next season.

With Bruce Anderson missing for a number of months through injury, it’s been the perfect time for Cosgrove to find his best form.
Dons fans will be hoping the striker can continue his goalscoring form when Aberdeen return to action following the winter break against Stenhousemuir in the Scottish Cup on 19 January
