Craig Levein’s comments about Hearts’ recent defeat to Hibs are unlikely to have impressed the Tynecastle support.
The Hearts boss was at pains to point out how well the Jambos played in the 2-1 defeat, and that the team ‘make amends’ for the loss when the teams meet again after the split.
“If we were as clinical as Hibs were then it might have been something like 6 or 7-2” he said, as reported by the Herald.
“We’ve also got the chance to go back to Easter Road in a couple of weeks’ time and make amends for Saturday’s result.”
Hearts fans won’t be impressed with what can be done in a few weeks time, they will want a reaction from their team as soon as possible, beginning with Saturday’s Scottish Cup semi-final against Inverness.
Saturday’s gave looks to be a pivotal one for the Hearts manager. They are huge favourites to defeat the Championship side and reach a first Scottish Cup Final in seven years.
A win would give the Jambos plenty to play for the weeks ahead. A defeat would all but end their season, and possibly Levein’s time as Hearts boss.
The game has a lot riding on it. Hearts fans will expect their team to make the final. Levein must use this week to pick his players up off the floor after the derby defeat.
If they can’t react to his words, then Hearts could well find themselves facing a cup exit.
