Hearts boss Craig Levein has expressed his joy at the pre-contract signing of Craig Halkett. The Livingston captain has agreed to join Hearts on a three-year deal.
Levein is delighted that the player has agreed to join the Tynecastle side.
“He’s quick, aggressive, good on the ball and I feel there is an awful lot more to come from him” he told the Scotsman.
He also feels the player will bring different qualities to the side from current Hearts defender John Souttar.
“I really understand that position because I played there all my days and, while he’s not the same as John, he’s got some very similar qualities and I think he’ll be a brilliant signing.”
Halkett has been excellent for Livingston this season. He has comfortably helped the team avoid relegation in their return to the Premiership.
It will be interesting to see how he fits into the Hearts side next season. He will be competing with not only Souttar, but also Christophe Berra for a place in the Hearts side.
Perhaps Levein might decide to move to three at the back for next season.
No matter the system, Hearts fans will be pleased with this latest signing. He looks to be a worthwhile addition to the Tynecastle side going forward.
