Hearts boss Craig Levein has revealed that attacker David Vanecek could have a role to play with the Tynecastle side this season.

The striker has struggled with both poor form and injuries, but Levein has not yet lost faith in the player’s abilities.

Indeed, the player could feature in Friday night’s trip to Aberdeen.

“He is still training, and he is fit enough but I just don’t think he is in a great place with his confidence” Levein told the Edinburgh Evening News.

“I don’t know”

“He is getting there with his fitness. I don’t know if he would be able to play a full 90 minutes at full pace.”

With both Steven Naismith and Uche Ikpeazu injured, it is no surprise that Levein is not giving up on Vanecek. However, the player will have to improve on his performances so far.

In seven appearances for the Jambos he has yet to score a goal.

Could well feature in the weeks ahead

However, due to the injury problems up-front he might well have to be used between now and the end of the season.

If that is to be the case, Levein’s comments are quite smart. He is giving the player confidence ahead of what could be a real appearance at Pittodrie.

Only time will tell if Levein’s words have their desired effect. Vanecek needs something to start his Hearts career, this could be it.
