We continue our end of season review of some of the most notable players in Scottish football with a review of Motherwell winger Jake Hastie’s season.
Jake Hastie’s 2018/19 is like something from a ‘Roy of the Rovers’ story. In less than a year he has gone from being on loan to Alloa to winning a move to Rangers.
He earned that move after a superb burst of form for Motherwell after the winter break.

Superb burst of form
He scored six goals in 12 games, including a run of four goals in three games, which must have caught the attention of Steven Gerrard.
Unfortunately for the Steelmen, Hastie’s run of great form came just as his contract was expiring. As a result the Ibrox side were able to sign him on a free transfer.

Will receive compensation
The only positive aspect of the deal for Motherwell is that they will receive compensation for the player. He was developed by the club’s academy and is under 23 years old.

The compensation won’t make up for the fact that he has left the club though. That is a problem that smaller teams in Scotland have often had to deal with though. Celtic and Rangers have constantly swooped in and bought the best young talent in Scotland.
All at Motherwell will no doubt be interested to see if Hastie is able to hold down a regular starting spot at Ibrox. Should he maintain the form he showed in 2018-19, the chances are high that he could.
