Despite the recent departure of Neil Lennon as Hibernian manager, signings were made on the last day of the transfer window.
Gaël Bigirimana joined the club from Motherwell.
Darnell Johnson completed a loan deal from Leicester City.
Marc McNulty arrived from on loan from Reading.
But there was one move that wasn’t completed – the signing of Scott Allan from Celtic.
Now, it should be remembered that Allan has already agreed a deal to join Hibernian at the end of the season.
However, they would have wanted the player in before that.
Allan was superb for the Easter Road side last season, helping them to finish fourth in the league table.
As the BBC revealed in their live transfer blog (22:04), Hibernian made an offer to Celtic to join the club in January.
The deal didn’t go through though, and Allan remains in Glasgow.
The failure to obtain Allan now has cast a bit of a shadow on Hibernian’s transfer business.
They would have been counting on the midfielder to kick-start their season.
The Easter Road side currently sit in seventh place in the Scottish Premiership table.
There’s little doubt that Allan would have been a big help in the battle to reach the top six.
However, the deal was not done, and fans will have to wait until next season to see Allan in green once again.
How that affects the rest of Hibernian’s season remains to be seen.
