Hearts recently announced that winger Jake Mulraney had signed a new deal with the club.

The Irishman has put pen to paper on a new three-year deal. It’ll keep him at Tynecastle until the summer of 2022.

This is a shrewd piece of business from the Tynecastle club.

Mulraney deserves his new Hearts deal

It took him a while to get going in Gorgie. Between last summer and the winter break, he didn’t really seem suited to the game in Scotland physically, with some of his performances just looking a bit off in every department.

Since then though he’s been brilliant. He didn’t have enough confidence earlier in his Hearts career to run at defenders.

Now he has that confidence, it’s one of his biggest strengths.

He showed in glimpses in the second half of last season what he was capable of. He scored against Celtic on the final day of the campaign and he provided a decent performance at Easter Road against Hibs in the final Edinburgh derby too.

He has had his critics over his spell in Gorgie, but a full season of impressive performances will see Mulraney become a big asset for Hearts, especially now he’s on a long-term deal.

Mulraney’s a direct winger who’s big strength is taking on defenders. He has a few things to improve on like his end product, and if he does that, he’ll be vital for Levein on the left during this season and the coming years. Mulraney certainly deserves his new contract.

Getting him on a long-term deal is great business from the Tynecastle side.
