Hamilton have appointed a new head coach.
The next man to take charge at New Douglas Park is St Mirren assistant manager Brian Rice.
The Saints announced that Rice had departed the club on their official website.
Rice will take over from Martin Canning, who left Accies by ‘mutual agreement‘ earlier this week.
The appointment of Rice is certainly a bit of a gamble.
He has never managed a team before, having only been an assistant manager at the likes of Falkirk, Inverness and Hibernian.
However, with Hamilton in the middle of a relegation battle, the board of directors feel this is a gamble worth taking.
The board have acted swiftly to appoint their man, ahead of a crucial fixture.
Rice will start his new job with a big game, as Accies take on Dundee on Saturday.
The teams are only seperated by one point in the table.
Hamilton will be hoping that the ‘new manager bounce’ comes into play for the game.
Parting company with Canning seemed like the right thing for Hamilton to do, as recent results had been poor.
Only time will tell if the appointment of Rice will prove to be a shrewd move, but the Hamilton board must believe this to be the case.
