The Boro defender is former Hibs and St Mirren boss Alan Stubbs’ son. Brian Rice reportedly wants him at Accies to help fix some of the club’s defensive issues.
Stubbs spent the last half of 2018/19 on loan at Notts County, but couldn’t prevent them for slipping into the National League.
He moved to the Riverside after being released by fellow Championship outfit Wigan.
Middlesbrough man Stubbs would get minutes at Hamilton
Middlesbrough will have been very impressed with what they seen from Stubbs during his County loan. Whilst the season ended in relegation, the defender equipped himself well.
He became a regular starter for the Magpies and went on to play 17 games. Physically brilliant, Stubbs reads the game very well for his age, showing maturity beyond his years at some points with County.
At just 20 years old he has all the right attributes to go far in football. At this stage in his career though, Middlesbrough will want him to play regular minutes.
Hamilton are struggling defensively at the moment. They ideally need two centre-backs with decent pedigree.
Against Ross County, Alex Gogic didn’t cover himself in glory and Ciaran McKenna went off injured after 16 minutes, as Accies fell to a 3-0 defeat.
Rice needs to add quality to his backline. Stubbs definitely has ability and would get minutes in South Lanarkshire. Accies are crying out for another couple of defenders and Stubbs would be one ticked off the list.
Middlesbrough will be keen for him to play as much football as possible this season. Hamilton seems like a good place for Stubbs if that’s the case.
