According to the Edinburgh Evening News, Hearts are interested in Leeds United’s Jay-Roy Grot. The Jambos should steer clear of the Dutch attacker.

The report claims that the Edinburgh based side want to take the United winger on a loan deal for the 2019/20 campaign. Vitesse Arnhem, his hometown club, also reportedly want him.

He fits the bill in terms of forward players Levein seems to be targeting. This is one forward who shouldn’t play his football in Gorgie.

Grot is a gamble

Hearts need forward players this summer no doubt. It has to be the right calibre of player though and Grot just doesn’t seem like Hearts standard.

He was initially earmarked as one for the future when he first arrived at Elland Road. His pace and power, matched with his physicality, shows he has all the attributes of a Levein striker.

The Jambos boss wants big and strong with a touch of pace. A hard model to find but Levein clearly has a type. A striker also has to score goals though, something which Grot can’t guarantee.

Grot played 33 times for VVV Venlo in Holland last year. He also scored three times and provided two assists in his last five league games. Sounds good doesn’t it? Wrong, outwith those five games, he scored three goals and managed one assist in the league all season.

Levein needs a clinical striker, not one that might come good. When his future is seemingly teetering on a knife edge, can he afford to take a gamble on players? Not really and Grot definitely would be one.

Hearts shouldn’t move for the Leeds attacker and instead should focus on someone more clinical.
