Hearts boss Craig Levein has revealed that Demetri Mitchell may miss the rest of the season with a knee injury. The full-back picked up an injury in the weekend Scottish Cup win over Auchinleck Talbot.
The Hearts boss has now disclosed that the injury is a serious one. He also revealed it is a reoccurrence of an injury suffered last season.

“Demi has done the same knee and the same lateral meniscus” Levein told the Scottish Sun.
“It’s a shame because he was good at the weekend. He had been suffering from a lack of confidence for a while.”
“He had got that back and it’s just unfortunate. I feel for him. It’s a setback for him.”

The injury kept Mitchell out of action for three months last season. If it is the same time frame this season, he wouldn’t be back in action until the very end of the season.
Mitchell has been a regular for the Tynecastle side this season, making 23 appearances. He will be particularly annoyed at the timing of the injury, as he had a very good game against Auchinleck.

He scored and had two assists in what may turn out to be his final game as a Hearts player. With Mitchell’s loan deal from Manchester United expiring at the end of the season it will be interesting to see if he returns to Tynecastle next season.
If not, this is an unfortunate way for his time at the club to come to an end.
