Hearts striker Uche Ikpeazu has called on Jambos fans to lay off manager Craig Levein and insists there’s no reason for him to be taking any stick.
The Jambos have struggled recently and lost the weekend derby with Hibs – but Ikpeazu pointed to the coming Scottish Cup semi-final as the reason to give Levein a break.
Levein’s side are also still in the mix to reach the top four and the big striker thinks the Tynecastle side are much improved from 12 months ago.
“Craig Levein has done a great job for this club, especially compared to last season,” Ikpeazu said, as quoted by the Daily Record.
“We’re in the semi-finals of the Scottish Cup and still trying to get into the top four of the Premiership.
“So I don’t see why anybody should be getting on to him.
“He’s a good manager and a good person. We’re all right behind him and I believe we can still achieve something this season. It’s just about having a positive mindset now.”
The Jambos face Inverness at Hampden on Saturday for a place in the final against either Aberdeen or Celtic.
Despite slipping beneath Hibs in the league following the weekend defeat by them, ending the season with a trophy would be a great achievement for Levein’s side.
If that still isn’t enough for some Hearts fans then they may have their expectations set just too high.
