Hibernian head coach Paul Heckingbottom was pleased with the performance of midfielder Stevie Mallan in the Easter Road side’s 2-1 win over Livingston on Friday night.
He set up the opening goal for Paul Hanlon then clinched the points with a fine solo goal. Heckingbottom is now hoping for more of the same from Mallan on a regular basis.
“That’s what he’s got in his locker,” Heckingbottom told the Edinburgh Evening News.
“He has to contribute like everyone else, win tackles, win headers, compete, and we know he’s also got that quality in the final third. I was pleased with his performance. He’s had a couple of good games in a row now.”
Mallan has had an up and down season for the Easter Road side. He has scored 13 goals and has 10 assists, which is a very good record.
However, sometimes he has gone missing in games, and not influenced them in the way he can.
He showed what he was capable of against Livingston. Hibs will be hoping for more of the same from the player in the weeks ahead.
If Mallan is able to conform as well as he did against Livingston in the next two league games, Hibs will be confident of a top six finish.
Heckingbottom is certainly pleased with his player. But now he wants him to push on.
