Ash Taylor has officially made his Pittodrie return, signing a two year deal with Aberdeen. The centre-half has come back to the Granite City following a two year stint at Northampton Town.

It’s a questionable signing and a pretty unremarkable one. The Welshman wasn’t great in his first spell in red and wasn’t seen as a major loss when he first left.

Some fans will have justified doubt about him after seeing him first hand before his move to the Cobblers. Regardless of what you think of him, if you’re an Aberdeen fan, you have to back Taylor.

Taylor deserves a chance to show why he’s in red

I previously questioned how ambitious a move for the likes of Taylor was for Aberdeen. I stand by the fact I think it’s a pretty uninspiring signing and there possibly would have been better options out there.

However, that doesn’t mean Dons fan shouldn’t give him a chance, even if they disagree with him signing. At the end of the day, he’s an Aberdeen player for two years now.

Taylor made a total of 100 league appearances for Derek McInnes’ side last time out. Whilst sometimes his performances were called into question, you could never say Taylor wasn’t giving his all.

Some will have already written him off, which isn’t fair. How is the Welshman meant to try and get going again at Aberdeen when a small section of the support will scrutinise every move he makes on the park?

All Dons fans have to fully back Taylor during his first few months at Pittodrie. He deserves the chance to at least try and prove why he should be playing in the Granite City.

Is he the most exciting signing in the world? Not at all, but fans have to back Taylor initially. You’re setting him up for a fall if you have already written him off.

On his first league debut for Aberdeen, the Welshman made a crucial error that contributed to a 3-0 defeat. If he can avoid such a bad start, Taylor should be able to make a good effort at hitting the ground running.
