According to the Daily Record, Jamie Walker is set for a Hearts return. The Jambos are reportedly lining up a move to take their former winger back to Tynecastle, having spent the last 18 months at Wigan.

He’s never really hit the ground running with the Latics.  A loan spell at Peterborough United didn’t exactly help matters either.

Given they’ll be getting a Walker who has had quite an indifferent 18 months, is a Hearts return the best move for him?

A Walker Hearts return makes sense for club and player

He’s not had the best time of it in the last year and a half. There’s no denying though that on his day Walker is a brilliant player.

Blessed with pace, Walker’s direct style factored in with his ability on the ball make him a dangerous winger. On his day, he could be one of the SPFL’s best widemen.

Does a Hearts return make sense for Walker? It does, for both him and the Gorgie club.

The winger needs to get back up to speed in terms of fitness. He only played 829 minutes of football in total last season. An intense pre-season with the Jambos would surely help him with that.

His confidence will have taken a knock too after two disappointing spells at Wigan and Peterborough. With the likes of Christophe Berra around him, the Jambos can help ensure Walker is fully focused ahead of a new campaign.

Walker would be a creative outlet Hearts desperately need if they can get him up to scratch. If he’s wearing maroon again come start of the season, Hearts fans should do all they can to back him. This could be a move that works for everyone.
