We’re now approaching the end of October and former Kilmarnock goalkeeper Daniel Bachmann still isn’t getting near the Watford first-team.

The Austrian spent last season on loan at Rugby Park and enjoyed a decent spell with the club. He helped them finish third and secured European football, keeping 14 clean sheets.

After this spell he returned to the Hornets, where he vowed to make his mark on the Vicarage Road team.

He told the Standard during the summer: “I’m looking forward to the challenge. Obviously I know Ben [Foster] has had an incredible season.

“It will be tough to get past him but football is all about competition and waiting for your chance. I think the competition will do us both good and I’m ready to play.”

Bachmann isn’t getting a shot at Watford

Bachmann might be ready, and he’s certainly capable, but the goalkeeper is struggling to break into the Watford team this term.

He has only made two squads, with both of those coming in the Carabao Cup. Bachmann’s yet to feature in a Premier League squad.

Whilst he’s obviously keen to play, neither Javi Gracia or Quique Sanchez Flores have picked him this term. It’s a shame as Bachmann’s a really good goalkeeper.

Whether he can make the step up to Premier League level is questionable, but at Killie he displayed good handling and distribution, whilst also maintaining a good clean sheet record of 14 in 27 games.

Killie offered him more minutes than anyone ever has last term and it should have been enough to put him on a platform for Watford success. The experience of Heurelho Gomes and Ben Foster has been used ahead of him though.

Hopefully something clicks soon for the talented ex-Kilmarnock man.
