Celtic boss Neil Lennon has confirmed that Youssouf Mulumbu is no longer a Celtic player, a development which should have Kilmarnock interested.

Speaking to the Daily Mail, Lennon said: “Mulumbu is a free. He is away, so there is not a future here for him.”

Killie boss Angelo Alessio should look to bring Mulumbu to Ayrshire for a third Kilmarnock spell.

A Mulumbu Kilmarnock move suits both parties

It just never really worked out for the DR Congo international at Parkhead. In total he made just three appearances in Hoops before being sent back to Rugby Park on loan.

He may never have got a chance at Parkhead, but he’d definitely be a welcome addition to the Rugby Park ranks. Mulumbu has been excellent whenever he has been at the club.

Money may not be a massive factor. Aged 32 now, he’ll be 33 in January. It looks as though his shot at a big move is gone. Perhaps he’d get a move to a bigger side in the Championship, but game time would be severely limited.

That’s why a Killie move makes sense. If he signed up again for one or two seasons, he’d get regular games as he winds down his career. Alessio on the other hand would be getting a reliable option in the engine room.

A deal seems to suit both Mulumbu and Killie. They could perhaps be doing with an additional midfielder and Mulumbu would be a great pick. A midfield trio of Alan Power, Gary Dicker and Mulumbu is something to fear.

An Ayrshire return seems logical for both parties.
