Hibernian head coach Paul Heckingbottom has confirmed that he is unsure when Ryan Gauld will make his return to the Hibs team.

Gauld has been out of action for almost two months with a hamstring injury. Now he has suffered a slight setback in his battle to be fit.

“It’s not a proper setback but hamstrings are dodgy. He felt it a little bit, so we have to be careful with him” Heckingbottom told the Daily Record.

Gauld’s continued absence is one of the low points for Hibs in what has been a good couple of months for the Easter Road side.

Heckingbottom has done an excellent job in his time at Easter Road. He will have been looking forward to working with Gauld.

Gauld’s injury problems have limited him to five appearances for Hibs since he joined the Easter Road club in January from Sporting Lisbon.

Gauld’s loan expires at the end of the season. Therefore, it will be interesting to see what the player’s next step will be.

Hibs will no doubt be eager for the player to return. Although Sporting Lisbon will of course have a say in the matter.

For Gauld to return, he will need to overcome his current injury problem. Time is running out for the player to make much of an impact this season.
