QPR goalkeeper Liam Kelly has spoken about how ‘positive’ his time with Livingston was.

The 23-year-old enjoyed a stunning season at Livi last year. The Lions surpassed all expectations in their return to the top flight, securing safety with ease.

Many of the stars from that team have now moved on. The likes Kelly, Craig Halkett, Declan Gallagher and Shaun Byrne have all moved away from West Lothian following their terrific efforts during the 2018/19 campaign.

Now Kelly has reflected on his time with them, insisting he couldn’t have expected much more from it.

Speaking to the Daily Record, the QPR goalkeeper said: “Obviously it’s a great privilege being at a club like Rangers but nobody wants to be third choice and you’d rather be playing somewhere. So I got the move to Livingston and I could never have dreamed the way it would turn out.

“It’s such a positive club with good people and we had an unbelievable season. Tony Caig, the goalkeeping coach, was probably the main reason I performed so well and I can’t thank him enough.

“It’s a shame in a way that so many of that team have now moved on this summer but the staff at Livi are happy to see us get moves. Thankfully Rangers agreed to let me go which allowed me to go to Livingston and it was the best thing that ever happened to me.”

Livingston are a great building block for players like Kelly

The likes of Halkett, Kelly, Byrne and Gallagher all played lower league football for the Lions. Even the likes of Raffaele de Vita and Lee Miller from the Championship squad are still at the club.

On a whole though Livi are a great platform to build your career upon. Kelly has probably bagged the best move from his time in West Lothian, but defensive pairing Gallagher and Halkett have also earned impressive moves to Motherwell and Hearts respectively.

Success stories like Kelly help attract players to the club. Livi can’t offer the best money with the best resources, but they can offer the promise of high level senior football. Do well, and you’ll get your big move soon enough.

Livingston is a brilliant place for footballers to develop right now. The likes of Kelly are a perfect example of that.
