Hearts look set to pull off a significant signing, according to a report. The Edinburgh Evening News has revealed that the Tynecastle side are set to sign Livingston centre-back Craig Halkett on a pre-contract agreement.

Halkett has been a stand-out performer for Livvy in their rise up Scottish football. This season he has played every single minute of league football for Livingston.

He has also scored five goals, and comfortably helped Livingston avoid the relegation places in their return to the Premiership.

Craig Levein’s side now have a solid base to build on going forward next season.

Not only will Halkett be available, but Christophe Berra and John Souttar will also be at Tynecastle. The Hearts boss was a solid centre-back. Now he seems to be building a team in his own image.

Livingston fans won’t begrudge Halkett his departure, even though he is leaving on a free. He has spent the last four years at the club, and has been a massive success.

Halkett has been one of the stand-out performers in the Premiership this season. The fact that he has adjusted so quickly to life in the top division is an indication of how good a performer he is.

Hearts fans should be delighted with this signing. It could be one of the best of the entire transfer window.
