Motherwell boss Stephen Robinson hasn’t given up hope of keeping Jake Hastie at the club. Hastie is in-demand after a series of good performances. Indeed, the Scottish Sun has reported that Rangers are set to sign the player on a pre-contract agreement.
However, the Motherwell manager believes there is a chance the player could stay at Fir Park.
“We’re doing our best to convince him to stay, but it won’t sidetrack us and it won’t sidetrack Jake. He’s a very grounded young man” he told the Scottish Sun.
Robinson went on to admit that losing Hastie would be a blow. But the blow would be tempered by the club receiving a development fee for the player.
“Jake’s been at this club a long time. If he goes we won’t lose him for nothing. All our young players are protected by compensation rules.”
Robinson is saying all the right things when it comes to keeping Hastie. He is correct though, to admit that life will go on at the club should the player depart.
Only time will tell where Hastie’s future lies. But tribute should be paid to the Fir Park staff for the job they have done developing young players.
The fans of the Steelmen will be hoping that Hastie will stay. But when a club like Rangers comes calling, the chances are that the player will move on. All at Fir Park will be well-aware of that and will be planning for the future.
