Scotland under-21 coach Scot Gemmill has heaped praise on Motherwell attacker Jake Hastie. Gemmill has called up Hastie for the forthcoming games against Mexico and Sweden, and he has explained his reasons why.

“He’s worked hard to put himself into this position, not just developing physically but also tactically” he told the Daily Record.

“The bottom line for me is he’s influencing games in a big way. He’s scoring important goals – goals that are really special.”

Hastie has been on a great run of form for the Steelmen in recent weeks. He has scored four goals in seven appearances overall this season for the Fir Park side.

He has helped Stephen Robinson’s side move far away from the relegation places, and get involved in the battle for the top six.

Motherwell will now have to hope that the player signs a new contract with the club. His deal runs out at the end of the season, and the player has a big decision to make about his future.

It would make sense for him to sign a new deal at Fir Park. He is guaranteed game time with the Steelmen. There is no guarantee that will happen if he signs for another club.

For example, if Hastie moved to Celtic or Rangers, it is not certain that he will get much playing time. That is why he should commit to a team he will be a mainstay of.
