The Daily Record recently reported that Celtic amongst others were interested in Kilmarnock left-back Greg Taylor. Given Arsenal are reportedly ‘optimistic’ about their chances of signing Hoops left-back Kieran Tierney, should Killie be worried about losing Taylor?

Tierney is an excellent full-back, probably the best in the SPFL. Despite this, Celtic may find the offer of mega money too hard to turn down.

If he does go then Celtic will have unmatched wealth in terms of the Scottish game to play with.

Kilmarnock shouldn’t be worried about it just yet

Taylor is also an excellent left-back. He too is one of the best full-backs in this country. If he were to leave Rugby Park, it’d have to be for a big fee.

You can see why clubs want Taylor. Pacey, attack-minded and a brilliant defender. The Killie left-back can do everything he’s required to with ease. Rugby Park’s number three is a reliable option.

The most Kilmarnock have ever received for a transfer is just under £2 million. That was for Steven Naismith.  Taylor should go for at least £3 million, given the state of today’s market.

Should they be keeping an eye on the Tierney situation? They’ll probably have to if there is legitimate interest, but they shouldn’t be worried about it. Celtic won’t move for him if Tierney is still there.

What they may want to watch for is English interest. Most teams in the Championship and lower reaches of the Premier League will pay whatever is necessary to grab Taylor. It’s those teams that Angelo Alessio and co should be watching.

Killie will hope Taylor is still playing in blue and white come the end of August.
