St Johnstone star man Zander Clark ruled out for weeks

St Johnstone have been dealt a blow in their bid to reach the top six of the Scottish Premiership.

Goalkeeper Zander Clark will be out of action for weeks with a hamstring injury. However, Saints boss Tommy Wright has disclosed that the injury could have been worse.

“The hamstring and tendon are stretched but the fact that there is no tear there means we can hopefully have Zander back to full fitness in a matter of weeks rather than months” he told The Courier.

Clark missed the recent 0-0 draw with Rangers, but his replacement Cammy Bell did well enough on the day.

Still, the absence of Clark will be a blow for the Saints. He has been perhaps the best goalkeeper in the Scottish Premiership this season.

He has conceded 41 goals in 33 games this season, but has also kept 15 clean sheets, which is a terrific record.

So good has Clark’s form been he could end up in the Scotland squad. But that will have to be on the back burner now until he returns to full fitness.

It will be interesting to see if Clark is still at St Johnstone next season, or another side makes a bid for him.

Clark has been excellent against Celtic this season. It would not be a shock if the Hoops put a bid in during the summer.
