Hearts centre-back John Souttar has revealed that a speech by his team-mate Aaron Hughes will inspire the Tynecastle side in the Scottish Cup Final.
Hughes, who is set to retire at the end of the season, never won a trophy in his long career. He told the Hearts players to take the chance to become legends by defeating Celtic at Hampden.
“A massive chance for us”

“He told us this is a massive chance for us that we need to grasp with both hands and said we need to do everything we can to win because sometimes you don’t get as many chances as you think” Souttar revealed to the Evening News.
“I took a lot from it because Aaron is someone who has done so much in the game, and yet he hasn’t won a thing.”

Many players in a similar situation
Hearts haven’t reached a Scottish Cup Final for seven years. Therefore, many of these players could find themselves in a similar situation to that of Hughes.

This could be their best ever chance to pick up a winners’ medal. Hearts are unlikely to win the league anytime soon, so opportunities like these can’t be passed up.
That is why Hughes’ words resonate so loudly. Souttar knows that for many players the chance might not come again. That is why Hearts have to give it their all against Celtic.
