St Johnstone manager Tommy Wright has had a few things to say about controversial Rangers striker Alfredo Morelos.
In particular, he didn’t hold back when it came to the incident which saw Morelos sent-off against Aberdeen and suspended for St Johnstone’s upcoming visit to Ibrox.
Morelos appealed his red card and lost, a decision which came as no surprise to Wright.
“I thought it was going to be difficult for Rangers to overturn his ban because the rules say there has to be an obvious error by the referee” Wright told The Courier.
Wright then discussed Morelos getting a red card – ironically against Aberdeen – rescinded earlier this season.
“While Rangers maybe benefited from previous incidents involving the player I didn’t think this one was ever going to be overturned.”
Wright might well be pleased that Morelos is suspended for the game. He scored the winning goal in the last encounter between the teams.
However, it will still be very tough for the Perth side to get a result at Ibrox.
St Johnstone’s confidence seems to have taken a hit following three defeats to Celtic in a fortnight. The most recent a 5-0 hammering in the Scottish Cup.
The St Johnstone boss would no doubt be delighted with a point. But that might be beyond the Saints at the moment.
