Former Aberdeen midfielder Willo Flood has made a bold prediction about his former club. Ahead of the Aberdeen-Celtic Scottish Cup semi-final on Sunday, he believes that it is only ‘a matter of time’ before the Dons win their first Scottish Cup since 1990.
He gave this prediction to the Evening Express.
“They’ve been so close to winning the Scottish Cup and to be fair it could be one decision that makes the difference” he began.
“Whether it is this season or next season I’m sure it will come. It’s a matter of time before the Dons win the cup and I believe they have enough to reach the final” he concluded.
In a way, you can see where Flood is coming from. Aberdeen have come close occasionally, most notably the 2-1 loss to Celtic in the 2017 Scottish Cup Final.
However, there have also been recent occasions where the Dons have failed to turn-up at Hampden. Most recent was the 3-0 defeat to Motherwell in last season’s Scottish Cup semi-final.
If the Dons are to live up to Flood’s prediction, they will have to play far better than they did against Motherwell.
A win over Celtic would see Aberdeen become favourites for the Scottish Cup, but there is no guarantee McInnes’ side will defeat either Hearts or Inverness.
