David Turnbull will be a Motherwell player for the foreseeable future after a medical uncovered a fitness issue. The club have confirmed that negotiations with Celtic have fallen through after a medical highlighted a problem with his knee.
He had agreed personal terms with the Hoops, so he’ll probably be gutted it’s fallen through. Well fans on the other hand will be delighted he’s going to be at Fir Park for a while longer.
Motherwell’s prize asset won’t be on the pitch for a while though. His fitness should be the main focus after this unpleasant ordeal.
Turnbull fitness can hopefully take priority
Nobody comes out of this particularly unscathed club wise. Celtic have been found out for looking unprofessional and Motherwell must shoulder some of the blame for bringing it into the public eye.
This should never have unfolded in the public eye. It has though, and now the transfer ordeal is over with, hopefully his fitness and road to recovery can become the main focus.
The Steelmen’s statement on his injury is quite worrying. It reads: “During that medical process, an issue was identified that will require David to have immediate preventative surgery and subsequent rehabilitation.
“David will now remain at Fir Park and will shortly have an operation which will rule him out of any football for an extended period, the exact length to be determined following surgery.”
Using the term “extended period” suggests he won’t be back for a while. The last time they used such a phrase was for Trevor Carson’s deep vein thrombosis injury, which kept him out for seven months.
That’s not to say Turnbull’s will be as serious, however, it does suggest he’ll be missing for a while.
The most important thing is that he recovers. Motherwell must give him the full support he needs and the platform to get back to his best. That way he can hopefully get that big move one day.
The sky is still the limit for Turnbull.
