Scottish football is on hold for now and who knows when we’ll see the storylines built up in the 2019/20 Premiership campaign brought to a conclusion.

It’s been an interesting season to say the least, with eight games still to be played. Motherwell and Aberdeen are locked in a battle for Europe whilst the fight to survive took the appearance of a four-horse race pre-shutdown.

We’ve not got any football to look forward to but we have plenty to look back on. So, in order from earliest to latest, here are our picks for the top ten games of the 19/20 Scottish Premiership season.

10. Aberdeen 3-2 Hearts, 04/08/19

An enthralling game for opening weekend, this encounter had more twists and turns than a corkscrew rollercoaster. Sam Cosgrove had given the home team a 1-0 lead before a returning Steven Naismith and Jamie Walker had Hearts leading with 14 to play.

9. Ross County 1-4 Livingston, 24/08/19

Livi had registered one away win during their return to the top flight in the 2018/19 season. 363 days had passed from that 2-0 victory away to St Mirren when they arrived in Dingwall.

Not only did they win, they arguably turned in their best attacking display of the season. Gary Holt’s side scored four and Jack Stobbs netted a goal of the season contender.

8. Motherwell 0-3 Aberdeen, 19/10/19

This was Aberdeen’s best performance of the season. Motherwell were putting the heat on in the race for third and Derek McInnes’ side travelled to Fir Park and handed them a drubbing.

Cosgrove scored a sumptuous chip, Niall McGinn doubled things after half time and Zak Vyner placed a rocket into the top corner on the hour mark.

7. Hearts 5-2 St Mirren, 09/11/19

A seven-goal bonanza, what’s not to love? Both teams needed points in the fight at the bottom, and whilst both lagged in defensive quality, it was a treat in attack with both sides creating and scoring plenty.

6. Hibs 3-0 Aberdeen, 07/12/19

Perhaps the best display of the Jack Ross era, Hibs were on fire during this game. A chess-like first half played out before the Hibees’ attacking force came out swinging, with Martin Boyle and Florian Kamberi playing starring roles.

5. Motherwell 1-2 Hamilton 29/12/19

An all-important victory for Brian Rice’s men, nobody really gave them a chance when they rocked up to Fir Park one game before the winter break. It looked set to go Motherwell’s way after Chris Long scored in the opening minutes.

But they outfought the Well in every department, with David Moyo picking the perfect time to get his first Accies goal with a derby winner.

4. Aberdeen 0-1 Motherwell 22/01/20

Whilst perhaps not as flashy as other scorelines on this list, this result for Stephen Robinson’s side was so important. A goal from Liam Donnelly was all it took to down the Dons at Pittodrie.

It’s allowed them to keep third place for a sustained period of time, despite going on a sticky run of results between February and March.

3. Hearts 2-3 Kilmarnock 5/02/20

The night where Alex Dyer really got his Killie side motoring, Kilmarnock rushed into a three-goal lead at Tynecastle within 50 minutes.

Hearts scored two in the final ten after opposing keeper Laurentiu Branescu was sent off, setting up an exciting end.

2. Aberdeen 1-2 Ross County 22/02/20

A game in which the Staggies were big underdogs, a Dean Campbell sending off changed the course of this match. Ross County took advantage and sealed a big win in the hunt for survival.

1. Hibs 1-3 Hearts, 03/03/20

Last but certainly not least, Hearts capped off an impressive four days after a win over Rangers with an immaculate performance on their neighbours patch. From start to finish they bettered Hibs, with everyone in maroon registering one of their best performances of the term to seal a memorable derby scalp.
