Hearts hero Danny Grainger has provided his prediction for his old side’s match with Hibs tomorrow.
The Jambos take to Scottish Cup semi-final action at Hampden against their Edinburgh rivals. Grainger knows a thing or two about what it takes to win such an event in Glasgow.
He was one of the names on the scoresheet as Hearts beat Hibs 5-1 in their famous 2012 Scottish Cup triumph. Now it’s up to manager Robbie Neilson to try and deliver similar success on Saturday.
Grainger is backing his former team to do the business. Hearts won’t dominate the match against Premiership opposition, but he reckons they’ll take a slender win back to Gorgie.
“I think if Hearts can play their game, not get dictated to and get the likes of Josh Ginnelly back, I think Hearts can do well,” Grainger told NTOF. “There’s expectation with the derbies.
“I think Hearts will get the result. I’m not going to say they’ll dominate and win it convincingly, I think they will have to be at their best.
“But if they can get the likes of Andy Halliday, Olly Lee, Peter Haring involved, I think Hearts can outwork them. I am looking forward to it and I think Hearts will come out on top 1-0.
“It’s an exciting game. I genuinely hope there is an early goal because in these types of games, the longer it stays 0-0, the more cagey it gets. Nobody really wants to step out their comfort zone.
“If there’s an early goal, the other team will have to come out and attack.”
Danny Grainger was speaking to NTOF as part of our Edinburgh derby preview alongside former Hibs manager John Hughes. The full conversation will be available on the Not the Old Firm YouTube channel at 9AM on matchday.
