Norwich and Scotland star Kenny McLean thinks Billy Gilmour is set to be a “superstar” for Chelsea for a “long time” to come after getting to work closely with the Stamford Bridge wonderkid.
Gilmour moved to Norwich on loan over the summer after bursting onto the international scene at Euro 2020 and McLean has been blown away by the amount of hard work the incredibly talented midfielder puts in.
While he struggled for game time under Daniel Farke at Carrow Road, Gilmour had a stunning game last weekend for Norwich in Dean Smith’s debut as manager for the club and McLean was full of praise for the Norwich loanee.
“[Billy Gilmour] will be a superstar,” said McLean. “He deserves everything he gets because of the hard work that goes in behind the scenes.
“He doesn’t just turn up on a Saturday and reply on his ability, which he could do, he puts the work in.
“I’ve got no doubt that he will be a huge success for Chelsea in the Premier League for a long time.
“That’s what I hope for him and that’s what he’ll get because he works hard for it. Even with the ability he has, he’s still out on the training pitch every day working on things.”
After making his return to the Norwich starting XI for the first time in two months, Gilmour set up the winner as the Canaries climbed off the foot of the Premier League table.
Since his promotion to the senior Scotland squad over the summer, Gilmour has quickly made himself one of the most important players in Steve Clarke’s side as they look to secure their place at next year’s World Cup in Qatar.
There’s little doubt that Gilmour has all the attributes to go and become the ‘superstar’ McLean expects him to become and, with a little bit of luck, there’s no reason Gilmour can’t go on and become one of the best players to have ever come out of Scotland.
