David Hopkin has demanded a reaction from his Ayr United players after a 1-0 Scottish Cup exit to League One Clyde on Saturday.
The Honest Men conceded early and despite a number of chances, couldn’t get back in the game as the Scottish Championship side were eliminated by lower league opposition. Clyde had played on the Tuesday and Thursday prior to the Somerset Park match and manager Hopkin knows things have to improve.
He said: “We started the game really poorly and gave Clyde something to hold on to. To be fair to them, they put their bodies on the line and they were prepared to work very hard. But you have to take your chances when they come and we didn’t do that.
“I’ve watched every game back from this season and it seems to be a tough place for these players mentally when they go a goal down and have to react. Well they need to react now. This is a reality check. We have two huge home games coming up this week against teams going for promotion and we need to be at it.
“Some of our decision making wasn’t at the level it has been and I’ve told the players we need to be far better than that. Everything has been positive until now but we were waiting for something to happen.”
