Callum Davidson explains why he’s not alarmed over St Johnstone goals after 2-0 defeat

The forward line has to come good sometime soon – but it isn’t a cause for concern just yet in the eyes of St Johnstone boss Callum Davidson.

Again on Saturday his side failed to score, losing 2-0 to Livingston. Whilst performance-wise there wasn’t much between the teams, two goals in two minutes from Scott Tiffoney and Alan Forrest handed Gary Holt’s outfit a comfortable win.

It lifts them into ninth whilst Davidson’s side sit 10th. It was the fifth game in six that the McDiarmid Park club have failed to score in, only managing one goal in that time too. Overall this term, St Johnstone have four goals from nine games.

Whilst Davidson is well aware his team do need to get firing sometime soon, it’s not alarming him for now as the chances are still being created. That said, he knew it was a difficult task in West Lothian when they went 2-0 down.

“You could sum up the game in two minutes,” said the St Johnstone boss. “From our corner, we conceded a goal and then 90 seconds later we were 2-0 down. It gives ourselves a massive hill to climb.

“We had a couple of good chances before that. The first ten minutes were pretty scrappy but once we went 2-0 down it was difficult to come back from that.

“I’d be concerned if we weren’t creating any chances. That’s the biggest thing for me. We want our strikers to start hitting a purple patch because our performances over the last six games have been better than the points tally suggests.

“Hopefully one of the strikers hits that purple patch and we start getting the points we deserve.”
