Jack Ross has explained why Christian Doidge and Kevin Nisbet are so crucial to his Hibs efforts.
The Hibees secured another victory at the weekend, beating Kilmarnock 1-0 on their travels to Rugby Park. A goal from the penalty spot via Nisbet reaffirmed their place in third spot.
Both his frontmen have been brilliant this term. Nisbet may have grabbed the headlines with his seventh Premiership goal of the season but Doidge has been the perfect partner, doing the dirty work and notching important strikes too.
Ross was very complimentary of his frontmen after the Ayrshire success: “It’s been another new challenge for me as a manager because it’s become much less of a trend to play two strikers.
“There are only certain formations that enable you to do so and we have used both. But you have to work hard at other aspects and the strikers have to play well.
“At the moment, what they are giving us in goal return and performances is justifying us playing that way. As long as that continues we will understand we will give up other areas of the pitch.
“We realise that. Kevin will grab the headlines with his goal but I thought Christian was excellent too.”
The Hibs manager also had kind words for his defence, who kept a sixth Premiership clean sheet on Saturday: “The defensive players have been terrific all season. When we reflected on last season, the one thing we knew we had to be better at was defensively as a whole team as we just conceded too many goals last year.
“Our record this year is very good, with the number of clean sheets and defensively in general. Two back-to-back away clean sheets is very good and individually they’ve all performed very well, either in a back three or back four at times.
“They are in a good place and I think we are seeing the fruits of that hard work that we’ve put on the training ground in terms of their performances.”
