Robbie Neilson has once again stated that Lawrence Shankland is not for sale as interest in the Dundee United striker continues to rise.

Stoke City were one of a few teams present at Easter Road as Hibs beat United 4-2 in the Scottish Cup. That didn’t mean Shankland was quiet throughout the match though.

Instead it was quite the opposite, getting the scoring underway in the six-goal thriller. Controlling the ball with his chest, Shankland brought the ball down and smashed a shot from outside the box past Ofir Marciano.

It was a simply wonderful finish. Big names like Stoke from south of the border have been linked with moves whilst Celtic and Rangers have all been long rumoured as admirers.

Whilst that goal perhaps came at the wrong time for Neilson, he’s very confident the Scotland international won’t be going to the likes of Stoke this month.

“I would have preferred if he’d saved that goal until just after January, when the window is shut,” said Neilson. “We don’t have to sell any players. We’re financially stable.

“Lawrence is a major part of what we’re doing here, he’ll continue to be a part of that. Lawrence is a very level headed human being. He’s not getting carried away.

“There are no plans to sell him this month, with promotion our priority. We can’t afford to lose our best assets, so I’ll be camping outside his house making sure he doesn’t go anywhere.

“It might be a different story in the summer.”
