Lee Miller knows how big an occasion the visit of Glasgow Rangers will be for Falkirk – but the imminent hosting of Cove Rangers is the priority just now.
The Bairns have been drawn against Steven Gerrard’s Rangers side in the last 16 of the League Cup. It’s a huge draw for the League One side and the match against the Light Blues will be shown on Premier Sports.
Whilst missing out on the financial bonuses a healthy Rangers support would have brought to the Falkirk Stadium, it’s an event Bairns co-boss Miller is excited about.
“The boys have got a spring in their step and a few massive games to look forward to, and that’s what we want,” said Miller. “We want big games to be involved in, it would be better if the fans were back and we could pack this place out.
“I feel sorry for the fans who won’t be here. You want to test yourself against the best teams and it will be a good test for us because they’re obviously the in form team in the country just now.
“A lot of the boys in the squad haven’t played against the Old Firm yet so it will be a good test for them. Our squad hasn’t got that fear factor, they don’t fear anybody, they just go out and play.
“Yes you get nervous, but nervous energy is good going into a game. You want that from your players and I’m sure they’ll be up for it.”
Before that tie a week on Sunday though is the visit of League One’s current leaders. Paul Hartley’s side have opened up a four-point lead at the top but Cove’s form isn’t surprising Miller ahead of another big match.
“They’ve got a good squad up there and they’ve hit the ground running but we’ve had a good start as well, it should be a good game,” the Falkirk co-boss said.
“We want to make the Falkirk Stadium a fortress. We want to make it hard for teams coming here and I think we’ve done that so far. It’s a good game for the boys to look forward to, one that they want to play in and look for the three points.
“We need to take each game as it comes. We’ve got Cove Saturday and that’s the biggest game of the season so far. every game is big and we need to get those points on the board and keep chipping away at it.”
