Falkirk are a rare League One side that has a problem that many teams would envy  – they have two goalkeepers battling it out to be number one.

Those players are Robbie Mutch, and Motherwell loanee PJ Morrison.

At the start of the season, Mutch was first choice. That was until a positive Covid-19 test kept him out of the side. His place was taken by Morrison. He helped the Bairns stay top of League One before Mutch returned to the starting line-up for the most recent league game against Clyde.

Managers have decision to make

Now Falkirk’s managers David McCracken and Lee Miller must decide who will be first choice goalkeeper for the next game, against Airdrieonians on Saturday.

Mutch feels that the competition the 22-year-old provides has forced him to up his game.

“We’re the same ages, we’re at the same stages of our career. We get along in training, we’re good mates. He’s a good goalie, I think we’re bringing the best out of each other, we both want to be playing on the Saturday. That’s why we train as well as we can, to make that starting eleven” he said.

Wants to see teammate do well

The Falkirk goalkeeper also was pleased to see Morrison do well when he took over in goals. Naturally he wants the team to do well even when he isn’t the first choice goalkeeper.

“I wanted the team to do well, and keeping clean sheets. If you’re keeping clean sheets you’re most likely going to be winning your game. You want the team to be winning every Saturday and that’s what they were doing” he said.
