The signings of Luke Matheson and Mihai Popescu on-loan from Wolves and Hearts strengthen Hamilton Accies – and any players coming in must have similar quality, says head coach Stuart Taylor.

Right-back Matheson has signed on a season-long loan deal from Wolves – where Taylor previously coached their U23s – while centre-back Popescu joins on a similar agreement from Hearts. Taylor, who was appointed head coach at the Scottish Championship club last month, says he is still looking at the free agency and loan market.

But any new additions to his squad must be of the right quality: “Luke has settled in really well. He’s come in from Wolves and did very well. He is very robust and very athletic. Mihai is a very experienced player who will give us a boost at the back. He is very comfortable on the ball and that’s something we want.

“We had them in and around the group last week which was good. So along with the other lads, it’s about learning together and getting stronger and better. We’re continually looking to progress and improve the football club. There’s a lot of things going on behind the scenes.

“That includes the team. If there is something out there that will make us better as a football club, we will look to do it. If someone is out there that will make us better, we will look to pursue it.”
