After Ryan Porteous’ red card on Friday, the return of Hibs defender Darren McGregor couldn’t be more timely according to Paul Hanlon.
The Hibees are gearing up for a big Edinburgh Derby on Thursday. A win at Tynecastle over struggling neighbours Hearts would not only strengthen their place in the top six, but leave the Jambos as many as seven points away from safety.
They’ll be without Ryan Porteous for this clash though. The young defender was sent off for a heavy challenge on Borna Barisic during Rangers’ 3-0 win over the Leith outfit.
In line for a return to the starting XI though is McGregor. The 34-year-old’s been battling an abdominal problem since August but made his first appearance in four months against the Gers.
Hanlon says that with the way things have played out, his return is a big plus: “Daz has worked hard in the gym to get himself back fit. I’ve had problems in that area before and there’s lot of grey areas with it.
“He has had to persevere in the gym and work really hard. All credit to him for his mental strength and resilience. He will be back in top condition,
“It’s good to see him back around the squad.”
