Jack Ross says that Alex Gogic and Sean Mackie could return this weekend – but Hibs are having to be cautious with Rangers loanee Jamie Murphy.

Gogic and Mackie missed the 3-0 weekend win over Motherwell while Rangers loanee Murphy was subbed against his former side with a hamstring problem.

There is some hope that all three can be fit and available for the weekend’s match with Hamilton, where the Hibees could leapfrog Celtic into second with a win.

A direct update was provided on Murphy by Hibs manager Ross. The forward is starting to hit form following his summer move from Rangers but limped off at Fir Park as he tracked back in defence.

On Murphy’s knock, Ross said: “It was a hamstring issue, I think he felt a bit of tightness. We hope it is nothing too major because he’s been an important player for us.”

Mackie was replaced by Lewis Stevenson in the weekend starting XI as the left-back picked up a thigh injury in training. Gogic’s injury is thought to be ‘minor.’

On the win at Fir Park, Ross added: “I’m delighted with the result. When you come away from home and record a victory of that margin, it is very pleasing.

“At half time, I was critical of the players in some aspects of it. We gave ourselves a foundation to try and get something from the game, but we weren’t quite at the levels we need to be to win matches. In the second half, we were terrific in all aspects of our play, so I’m really delighted with how the players responded.”
