Hibs manager Jack Ross says Hibs have started contract negotiations with Joe Newell and Ofir Marciano ahead of the visit of Celtic.
The Hibees host Celtic in another big match for Ross’ side. After the disappointment of defeat to Hearts and Aberdeen, they responded with a 4-1 win over Dundee last weekend.
Now Celtic come to town and Ross has provided a boost for supporters ahead of the match. He says contract talks with key players in Newell and Marciano are underway.
Newell has been a revelation for Hibs since moving into the centre of midfield whilst Marciano has been the Easter Road number one for a number of seasons. Ross says discussions have begun.
“Ofir has been in-form all season,” said Ross. “Our defensive record has been good with the number of clean sheets but also the number of goals conceded from open play, it’s not that many.
“Ofir’s played a big part in that. Undoubtedly, like in the Rangers game where he had to make a couple of big saves, he’ll need to do that again tomorrow.
“We’ve initiated some conversations with Ofir’s representatives. Those are ongoing. It’s only been fairly recently we’ve done that but Ofir is aware we’d be keen to prolong his stay at the club.
“I’ve been delighted with his form this season. Very similar to Ofir, the same conversations with Joe have been initiated. We would like to prolong his stay and cut the turnover of players we have in each window.
“Hopefully we can bring an increased stability to our squad. Ofir and Joe have pretty much played every game this season so it would be common sense for us to keep them at the club.
Ross has also provided an injury update ahead of the game. A few men will miss out but striker Christian Doidge returns to the side after missing the game against Dundee.
“Lewis Stevenson and Kyle Magennis are absent,” said Ross. “Scott Allan is still absent and Christian returns from suspension. The three international players (Marciano, Ryan Porteous, Alex Gogic) return as well.”
