Hibs head coach Jack Ross says people who were phoning about Josh Doig ‘are not doing so now’ amid Leeds United interest – as a wait for Chris Mueller goes on.

19-year-old Doig was expected to leave Hibs for English football earlier this August, Leeds United one of the several Premier League teams linked with the left-back. But talks on an exit have stalled, with interested parties not following up their interest suitably. Ross says that while interest has cooled for now, things could pick back up.

He said: “The people who were phoning me a lot are not doing so now , so read between the lines on that. Those people might start phoning me again but for the moment I think we took back control of the situation and it’s been good for Josh and ourselves.

“I don’t know what might happen over the next few days but at the moment it’s been good for him because he’s looked much more like himself with having that bit of clarity over the past couple of weeks.”

American international Mueller has signed a pre-contract with the Scottish Premiership club ahead of his Orlando City deal expiring at the end of the MLS season. Hibs have been trying to get him to Edinburgh this month but it has proven unsuccessful.

Ross said: “Unless something dramatic changes, he will stay with Orlando until his contract finishes and then join us in January. We’ve pushed really hard to try and get him in now but his club has the right to keep him. It could change but I’m planning to be without him until the turn of the year.”

Hibs are still after new recruits before the transfer window shuts next week while talks are ongoing with striker Kevin Nisbet over a new deal. Ross added: “I’d be really surprised and disappointed if we didn’t add before the window closes.

“I’m hopeful we’ll have a couple of additions and that will enable us to move some on who haven’t been able to play regularly. We need to add to give us a squad with the quality and depth that can meet the ambitions of where we want to be.”
