Hibs manager Jack Ross says it’s not just Easter Road fans who should be excited by Kevin Nisbet’s excellent start to life in the Premiership.

The striker was again on top form as the Hibees beat Hamilton Accies 3-2 on Friday night. The summer recruit from Dunfermline got another two goals, taking his Premiership total to six goals with two assists from eight games.

It’s a remarkable start to life in Leith for the forward, the decision to tie him down to a four-year deal looking like a smart one from Hibs.

Ross says that whilst he won’t be banging on Scotland boss Steve Clarke’s door to get him in the international squad, the Hibs manager says Nisbet should be exciting the nation with his form.

“I don’t like to force players on Steve because he’s got experience in the game but Kevin give himself the opportunity,” said Ross.

“You don’t get up around being top scorer in the Premiership without good reason and I think he’ll stay up and around that.

“If you judge Kevin on goals his return is really good, but his overall play is fantastic and that’s the part that’s maybe taken people by surprise.

“We should be excited to have a good Scottish striker, not just at Hibs but as a country as well.”

Hibs’ boss has also provided an update on the Easter Road club’s transfer activity ahead of deadline day. Kyle Magennis is one transfer that should be completed, the St Mirren captain in attendance at Easter Road on Friday night ahead of his Leith move.

Ross has dismissed the notion he was interested in Crewe Alexandra midfielder Ryan Wintle, saying only something surprising will take Hibs into the market now: “If we do anything else it would be out the blue. I’m pretty happy with my group. They’re a brilliant bunch of players.

“I know Ryan to be fair. He’s a good player at Crewe but for us at the moment, I’m pretty satisfied where we’re at.”
