Ross County manager Malky Mackay says Arsenal loanee Harry Clarke ‘cruised the game’ against Rangers, despite a 4-2 loss.

The Arsenal centre-back has joined County on a season-long loan deal and made his first start in the loss to the Scottish Premiership champions on Sunday. Clarke netted to bring the game back to 2-1 but ultimately Steven Gerrard’s side were too strong.

Mackay was left proud of his players and impressed with his new signing from Arsenal:  “I asked them to make sure they stayed in the game for 90 minutes and we did that. I’m very proud of the players.

“When you go 2-0 down after 20 minutes, those are the sorts of game that can run away from you when you play Rangers and it can be six or seven, as has been seen in the past.

“They were playing the best team in the country who have a fantastic squad of players and we are giving debuts every week here. I thought Harry Clarke was exceptional at the back. I am delighted we managed to sign him from Arsenal as he’s one we’ve been tracking. I thought he was immense and cruised the game against top centre forwards.”
