Aberdeen manager Derek McInnes is delighted with his Dons team after they secured a fine 3-1 win over Ross County.

An early penalty from Josh Mullin inside the opening four minutes had his side on the backfoot. McInnes’ men responded in brilliant fashion though.

Niall McGinn scored a superb free kick before Ryan Hedges scored from another during the second half. A fine strike from Andy Considine sealed the three points.

It’s a result that puts Aberdeen in third prior to Motherwell’s match away to Celtic, who have lost just one of their last 80 domestic home games.

Speaking after the Highland clash, McInnes says he’s thrilled with his team: “If you’re going to go behind you want to do so in the first few minutes rather than the last few minutes of the game. So we still had time to deal with the penalty decision.

“Thankfully we did that. I thought the pitch was a bit slippery underfoot for the players. But I thought we had enough good play in the first half and I thought we were the team asking more questions going into half time.

“I do think the introduction of Curtis Main helped us. With County going 4-4-2 we had to make sure our centre-half’s dealt with their front two better than their centre-backs dealing with our front two.

“I thought our front two caused them no end of problems. It helps that we score right away and gets ourselves in front from Hedges’ free kick.

“But I thought we were worthy of the victory and possibly a few more goals. Andy gets a third goal for us which perhaps puts a fairer reflection on the game.

“I would have taken any sort of victory coming up here today to get that three wins in a row and I think the players deserve so much credit.

“It was a good afternoon’s work for us.”
