He scored the vital goal during the win over Dunfermline- and Craig Moore is well aware of how important that could be for Ayr United.
The former Motherwell striker scored just before half time as Ayr ran out 1-0 winners over the Pars on their travels. After just one win in seven, it was a much needed three points for Mark Kerr’s side.
Moore’s fourth Championship strike could prove vital. It lifts them into third and extended the gap over fifth-placed Dunfermline to six points.
They travel to Dundee next, who sit three points below them in the play-off race. Victory at Dens Park could see them extend the gap between third and fourth, plus it could open up a potential nine-point gap on fifth.
“It was a massive result, we needed to grind it out,” said Moore. “The performance wasn’t pretty but it was just about getting the win and kicking on from here.
“Also, the results went our way so it’s a good boost. We need to get results and we know we have a team in there that’s capable of picking results up. If anything, we’ve been shooting ourselves in the foot for the last four-five weeks.
“It’s easy to say that but it’s errors that we’re making that are easily solved. We need to cut them out and today we did. We’ve been in this league for a good couple of years now so we know what to expect. Everyone can beat everyone, it’s crazy.
“If we play the way we can and don’t make mistakes we will pick up results and we will stay where we are because we have a good enough squad to be up there.”
