Results against Hamilton Accies haven’t been good enough – but Motherwell assistant manager Chris Lucketti says the Fir Park players are keen to put things right.

Three of Hamilton’s six wins in the league this season have came in Lanarkshire derby matches ahead of the pair’s fourth meeting on Wednesday. Lucketti’s first derby was soured as Hamilton beat Motherwell 4-1 at Fir Park in February.

The Fir Park assistant is looking to make amends: “We’ve not been happy with the results since we’ve come up here against them, and obviously before we’ve come in. We know what has gone on in the past but we can’t change that, we just want to go on and win the game.

“They’ve been disappointing, that’s for sure. That’s something we can’t change from the past, but what we can do is change the future, look forward. The lads are full of confidence, looking forward to the game, and looking forward to producing the right performance, which will get us three points.

“Three points will go a long way towards that [avoiding the play-off], nothing is guaranteed, but three points would certainly help our situation. We’ve won four of our last five games, so we know we’re in good form, the lads are confident and training well, playing well, and picking up results, which is what it’s all about.”

Key Motherwell midfielder Allan Campbell is set to overcome an injury scare from last week’s Scottish Cup win over Greenock Morton, Lucketti hailing the battler: “He should be fine, Allan’s a warrior, and we were actually quite surprised to see him go down, but it was a touch of cramp due to the extra-time.

“He has been assessed and he was back in training on Monday and he will be fine and raring to go. It’s a major boost for us because as has been said before, since we’ve come into the club Allan has been tremendous.

“He’s a true professional and we need him and this team needs him, playing like he does in training every single day and that is to his maximum effort. If you can get as much of your squad as you can playing like that, you’ll win many games during the course of the season.

“We are fortunate that we have a lot of strong candidates for those positions and we base that down to, if you’ve got the shirt hang on to it. Make sure that you play well when you’ve got the shirt, and training performances will be included in our decision-making to pick the best we can do from those selected players.”
