Motherwell manager Graham Alexander was left fuming after his side were denied a “blatant penalty” in yesterday’s defeat by Celtic at Fir Park – insisting that VAR would have helped his side as he highlighted several other decisions which have gone against the Steelmen.
Celtic defender Boli Bolingoli appeared to handle the ball in the area and the Motherwell players should feel aggrieved they didn’t get the decision in their favour from stand-in official Chris Fordyce.

With talks over the introduction of VAR in the Scottish Premiership ongoing, Alexander believes it would have helped as he raged that it is seemingly “very, very difficult” for referees to give his side a penalty.
“It was a blatant penalty. I could tell by the reaction of the players,” Alexander said after the match.
“We were in the box, we were ready to get an opportunity to score and it’s a blatant penalty, the lad’s just slapped it away. All I can say is we don’t get them.
“We should have had one a few weeks ago at Ibrox, we should have one here, blatant. Last year against Aberdeen there was a blatant when the player has made the best save of the game.
“We don’t get them, simple as.
“I’ve only been up here nine months, I’m still learning but learning quickly that it’s easy to give a penalty against us but very, very difficult to give a penalty to us.
“From my relatively new experience here that’s what I’ve seen with my own eyes.
“I definitely think VAR would have helped us.”
