Motherwell star Tony Watt has credited Fir Park assistant manager Keith Lasley after he netted the winner over Ross County; explaining how the Steelmen legend has been working with him to try improve his stats.
Watt scored the winner with ten minutes to go as Motherwell extended their unbeaten run and kept within two points of leaders Rangers at the top of the Premiership table.
Lasley has been speaking with the attackers at Fir Park about expected goals and doing what he can to help the likes of Watt add more goals to their game and the ex-Celtic forward admits the extra help is working for him.
After grabbing his fourth goal of the season, Watt was buzzing as he confessed he wasn’t getting the same rewards for his play last season despite “probably playing better”, saying at full-time; “Getting the winner was brilliant. I’m just trying to get as many goals as possible and help the team.
“Last year I was probably playing better, but not scoring as much.
“I was getting assists and that, but the gaffer challenged me to get more goals, and that’s what I’m trying to do. I’m trying to do it every day, and we’re doing well.
“I need to give Keith Lasley a big shout-out for that, because he’s been taking us forward players aside.
“We’ve been speaking about expected goals and stats, and just trying to do everything we can to get more goals, and it’s helping.”
