Norwich City starlet Aidan Fitzpatrick has sent a message of thanks to Queen of the South as he returns south to Carrow Road.
Fitzpatrick spent the season on loan at Palmerston from Norwich City, who will play English Premier League football next season. He has made 27 appearances with four goals and three assists during a productive loan spell for the 20-year-old.
He’s sent a message to Queen of the South, who finished sixth in the Scottish Championship this season: “Would like to thank Queen of the South for the opportunity to play, loved every minute, wish the club and all the boys the best for the future.”
A summer rebuild likely awaits the Palmerston club. The likes of Fitzpatrick will return to loan clubs such as Norwich City while club legend Stephen Dobbie is also moving on to pastures new. Manager Allan Johnston confirmed after the away match with Ayr United last month that almost everyone needs a new deal to stay.
He said: “Everybody’s out of contract! It’s always a rebuilding job at Queen of the South, hopefully we can get a few of the boys signed up – we need to speak to the board first and obviously make sure we’ve got the budget in place, but obviously securing a position in the league next year makes a big difference.
“It’s always going to be difficult when we don’t pay as much as the majority of teams in our division, so trying to recruit players is always going to be difficult.”
